Rocio Therapist Manly

Rocio (she/her) - Counsellor

  • Masters Degree in Social Work - Western Sydney University / Sydney, Australia 

  • I am experienced in utilizing various evidence-based modalities including
    Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT),

  • Motivational Interviewing, Narrative therapy and I utilise somatic approaches
    within my practice.

I am experienced in working with individuals with trauma related presentations (PTSD, Complex Trauma and Vicarious Trauma) as well as passionate about utilising a trauma informed lens to support people struggling with depression, anxiety and stress, self-harm and suicidal thoughts, culture and migrant challenges, self-esteem and confidence, relationship difficulties and life transitions. I am also
passionate about challenging stigma surrounding mental health issues, radical self-care and a HAES (Health At Every Size) approach to health and wellbeing. I use a feminist framework for practice and my work is underpinned by ethics of
social justice and advocacy, an appreciation of intersectional oppression and the pursuit of dignity in a world where this is lacking for many. In addition to my role in private practice I am currently working as a trauma specialist counsellor in a non-government organisation. I work with individuals 16 years and above and am fluent in Spanish and comfortable
in providing psychotherapeutic services in this language. Currently taking Victims Compensation bookings via referall.

As a therapist, I feel privileged to witness and support the inner transformation of my clients. I find great inspiration in hearing stories from people of all different walks of life, and am humbled by their tales of resilience in the midst of great hardship. I find great fulfillment in partnering with them on their journey. Throughout my time working in mental health, I have held clinical and agency positions in private, non-government, feminist, and not-for-profit community based health organisations, working in the areas of addiction and women’s health. I continue to hold a clinical role in the Non-Government drug and alcohol treatment sector. I am formally trained in the use of Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT); a systematic, trans-diagnostic approach rooted in sound mindfulness meditation practice.

I have been a client myself for over ten years, and continue to participate in my own therapeutic journey, including regular clinical and external supervision. I believe that good mental health care should be accessible to all people as a priority, and am an activist in the mental health space. I am a long-term meditator in the Vipassana and Zen Buddhist traditions, I enjoy painting, roller-skating and music, and am a BIG believer in self care!

I am committed to supporting my clients to address a wide variety of issues for personal growth. I have had extensive clinical experience working with older people, people who have experienced trauma as well as chronic illnesses and addictions. In my sessions I make holistic, psychosocial assessments to help clients understand why they feel certain ways. I often use meditation techniques in my session if a conflict arises.
